Drive-up access; among the darkest skies in Europe.
Caldera de Taburiente – Mirador de la Cumbrecita
Central crater viewpoint (access by reservation or permit). The moon rises over the massive caldera rim and ancient Canarian pine forest — epic geological scale with near-total darkness. Short walks from the car park; book permits in advance as access is strictly controlled.
Fuencaliente – Volcán San Antonio & Teneguía
Southern volcanic cone area. The moon rises over black lava fields and the open Atlantic — dramatic with recent lava flows (2021 Tajogaite eruption), salt flats, and the Fuencaliente lighthouse as foreground. Short trails from parking.
Puerto Naos – Black-Sand Beach & Promenade
Western coastal village with the moon rising straight out of the Atlantic. Wet black-sand reflections at low tide; palm trees and the distant Cumbre Vieja ridge for framing — the jet-black sand gives reflections unlike any white-sand beach.
Tazacorte – Puerto & Lighthouse
Quiet western harbour with the moon rising over the sea and Cumbre Vieja ridge. Calm water reflections with fishing boats as foreground — noticeably quieter than Puerto Naos and a great alternative for avoiding crowds on full moon nights.
Bosque de Los Tilos – Laurel Forest Trails
UNESCO biosphere reserve in the misty northern highlands. The moon rises over the ancient laurel forest canopy and distant volcanic peaks — ethereal and atmospheric with waterfalls and endemic flora in the foreground. Best visited on drier winter nights when cloud cover clears.
