Iconic loch with a historic Robert the Bruce connection. The moon rises over the water and Glen Trool valley — stunning with the stone cairn foreground and forested hills. Short walk from car park.

Kirroughtree Visitor Centre – High Trails

Central hub with elevated trails and viewpoints. The moon rises over the forest and distant lochs — pine trees and open clearings for foreground. Café and parking available.

Glentrool Visitor Centre – Merrick Trail

Northern entrance with open views. The moon rises over the glen and loch — darker skies and natural framing. A great starting point for longer moonlit hikes toward the Merrick summit.

Caldons Campsite – Southern Forest Trails

Southern edge near Newton Stewart. The moon rises over open moorland and distant hills — very dark and peaceful. Campsite access (fee) or nearby trails open for free.

Cairnsmore of Fleet – Lower Slopes

Southern hill (~711 m) with open trails. The moon rises over the park and Solway Firth — panoramic and remote with wide coastal horizon views. Moderate hike to best vantage points.
